“QSCad has proved an invaluable tool and has paid for itself in a short space of time”

All software developers will tell you just how good their product is, we asked one of our customers to tell you how good it really is! Ian Jordan of  Wilson Construction Ltd. highlights some of the benefits of QSCad.

“About 6/7 years ago I was looking into digitiser tables for use with our Conquest Estimating System. Following discussion with Conquest they mentioned that they had seen Masterbill’s software at an IT exhibition. I then went to the next available IT conference at the Oval in South London where I first saw QSCad and was instantly hooked.

I saw that as a product QSCad provided considerable advantages to standard taking off practices of paper and pen and excel spreadsheets.

At this time QSCad was simple, measuring only areas and the Drainage module was still in its infancy and the Siteworks module was in the pipe line. I persuaded my MD at that time to let me purchase a copy. The pen and paper and excel sheets were soon gone.

I was working on large housing developments which with QSCad allowed me to take off quick areas, collate quantities quickly, all to the accuracy of the CAD drawings. The only major problem at that time was convincing engineers/architects to send the CAD drawings.

Since that time QSCad has developed with Drainage and Siteworks modules saving almost two thirds of normal taking off time. As a groundwork's company the main elements on any project is the amount of cut and fill to be calculated. This can take considerable man-hours and traditionally not to a great level of accuracy.

QSCad makes it fun to do taking off again, it is easy to use and provides a very accurate calculation across the site. With the features of being able to view the site topography one can be confident with the results given.

QSCad  has enabled us to return tenders quickly and to be able to provide a lump sum tender bid making us competitive and able to offer a unique service which the majority of our competitors are unable to do. 

Tendering for projects can be very costly and will increase overheads if the win rate is low. Therefore QSCad has enabled us to keep our tender costs down by making major savings in measurement time. The time saved can be put to better use pricing the works and ensuring costs are accurate and planning of labour and plant resources.

I have been able to work closely with Masterbill over the last few years and have provided a number of observations and suggestions which it has been good to see incorporated into QSCad. The support and assistance that has been provided has been excellent with regular updates and continual improvements to the system.
